Becca Mayer was able to raise enough money through SMSA Athletics concessions with the help and support from Jhymari Rainford and Ms. Schmidt, to purchase our first All-State Banner!
- Start thinking about how you are going to prove to the judges that you have contributed to your community in some way, and that it was a step above volunteering. Collect artifacts early on and journal early on. If you let things snowball, you will not get what you are supposed to from this project, because you will run out of time!
- Don't rush into a project that you think is okay, just because you want to get it done. Try and take a little time to create a project that is going to be MEANINGFUL AND SUSTAIN YOUR INTERESTS, because that is the way you are going to have the greatest impact. Finding a project you LOVE, will make every step of this so much easier. For example, the paper is so much more interesting when you are researching something that effects you, your family or the community. The field work, journaling, the ePortfolio and especially presenting will all come so much easier if you have a project that you are invested in. Once you stop counting field work hours, and tell me you want to do more, that is when this project becomes more than just another thing you just have to get done, and that is when my friend, you get "it", Capstone that is.
- Please come and see me in my office located in the back of the library. I am available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I can meet you during your lunch, before school, after school and if you have 5th block free, I can meet you then as well. Please only come during your class, IF AND ONLY IF, you have permission from your teacher.
- ATTENDANCE in your Capstone class matters. You must PASS your Senior Seminar class as well. Remember 3 tardies equals an absence and once you hit 20 absences in a year long course, you will lose credit in Capstone, and will not be eligible to graduate. This has happened and will happen if you exceed the number of absences.
- Proposals will be sent back to you IF it is written in a hypothetical. We need confirmation that you have the Who, What, Where, and Why worked out.
- If you are working with children, you MUST draft a parent letter, explaining who you are, what you are doing, why, etc.. Explain to them what school you are coming from, you can use me as a contact or your mentor. Also, YOU MUST ask parent’s permission before photographing their child. So have a tear off permission slip stating that you have permission to take their child’s picture. It could look something like this: Working with your child is part of my Capstone project. In order to document the progress of my project through pictures or video, I would like to ask your permission to photograph your student. Please sign below indicating that I am able to take pictures of your child and use for my Capstone ePortfolio _____________________________________________________
